The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has launched its highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO), creating an opportunity for Nigerian investors, both at home and abroad, to own equity in one of Africa's most significant industrial assets.
What Is the Dangote Petroleum Refinery? The Dangote Petroleum Refinery is the world's largest single-train crude oil refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos. Since reaching full processing capacity, the refinery has become a central pillar of Nigeria's downstream oil sector, reducing the country's reliance on imported refined petroleum products.
Why This IPO Matters: Scale - the refinery's size and strategic importance make this a landmark listing on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX). Retail access - the offer structure is designed to give everyday Nigerian investors, not just institutions, the opportunity to participate. Diaspora access - Nigerians living abroad are expected to be able to participate in the offer. Market significance - a successful listing would be a milestone for the depth and credibility of Nigeria's capital markets.
Key Offer Details: the offer is being made by Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals FZE, which is bringing 4.1 billion ordinary shares to market at a fixed price of N525 per share. This values the target issue size at approximately N2.1525 trillion, underscoring the sheer scale of the listing.
Investors looking to participate will need to subscribe for a minimum of 10 shares, representing an entry point of N5,250, with any additional shares purchased in multiples of 10. The offer opens on September 14, 2026, and closes on October 13, 2026, giving investors roughly a month to apply.
Once concluded, the shares are expected to be listed on the Main Board of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), placing the refinery alongside the country's largest publicly traded companies.
